Job Title: Van Driver FLSA: Non-Exempt Band: 1 Reporting to: Supportive Housing and Homeless Programs Manager Scope: Responsible for transportation services to low-income persons as part of comprehensive services to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty.
Essential Functions Provide transportation of Agency clients to and from designated locations on an on call basis as allowed for by program guidelines.
Coordinate the scheduled transportation of Agency clients to and from designated locations in Wayne County.
Operate radio or other communication devices.
Prepare records and reports as required.
Complete general operating and cleaning maintenance on the vehicle (e.
g.
, gas, check fluid levels, tire inspections, cleaning, etc.
).
Remain aware of and transport vehicles for scheduled and emergency maintenance and repairs in consultation with the fleet manager.
Alert the fleet manager to any problems with the vehicle and any need for maintenance.
Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Attend training and educational seminars and sessions as assigned by manager.
Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff and a willingness to work with others.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment Driver: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when in the field.
The employee is constantly required to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, lift and or move (up to 100 pounds), stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or a combination of education and experience.
Two years of experience.
Possession of a valid chauffeur's license from the State of Michigan.
Successful completion of routine background checks which includes verification of satisfactory driving record (no more than three (3) current points), criminal history, and references.
Ability to operate a 15 passenger van.
Knowledge of state laws and driving requirements for the State of Michigan.
Ability to read a street map and find unfamiliar locations in a timely manner.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and common sense in responding to situations and notifying the proper authorities in a timely manner when necessary.
Ability to be prompt and conform to schedules.
Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work.
Minimum Competencies: Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Licensing and Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Travel Requirements: Ability to travel to various sites.
Work Hours: Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
