Silver plus for stroke! General Summary: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, specimens, and medication, throughout the Hospital as assigned.
This position reports to the Supervisor, Patient Transportation.
Essential Duties: Practicing safe lifting and techniques, transports patients by assisting patients in and out of cars, lifting patients on and off beds, moving patients to and from special services and treatment areas using wheelchairs, gurneys, or moveable beds.
Transports medications, patient charts, specimens, and blood appropriately as directed.
Transports bodies to the morgue and assists in placing them in the cooler.
Assists in moving bodies to the autopsy table.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities provided.
Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education / Training: High school diploma or equivalent preferred Work Experience: Requires successful completion of three months of on-the-job-training, required.
Experience in patient transportation in an acute hospital environment is desired.
Certification, Licensure, Registration: BLS (AHA, American Heart Association) OR BLS (ARC, American Red Cross) certification upon hire, required.
Other Qualifications: Understands and demonstrates safe lifting and transport techniques, required.
Knows and practices Universal Precautions as appropriate, required.
Requires demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians and management, required.
Ability to understand and follow directions, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements, required.
Requires the ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seek assistance, required.
Requires the ability to organize and prioritize transports and other work, required.
