General Description of Position:
Responsible for providing supportive services and staff development to general education and special education teachers, administrators and parents/guardians on behalf of students who qualify with visual impairments, and evaluation services to students suspected of having visual impairments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct formal and informal assessment of students to assist in the determination of VI eligibility and present level of educational performance.
Assist in the development of an educational program with appropriate instructional techniques and curriculum that can be used successfully in the classroom.
Complete and present a written evaluation report to parents/guardians and the local educational agency within required timelines.
Maintain record of student progress and assist in the development of goals and objectives.
Participate in IEPT, MET and other meetings as appropriate.
Consult with other personnel including teachers, principals, other ancillary staff and parents/guardians to evaluate program effectiveness.
Provide staff development and parent/guardian training.
Assist with planning curriculum, lessons and teaching methods.
Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, lesson plans, behavioral data and student progress on IEP goals/objectives.
Travel to meet job requirements.
Conduct parent/teacher conferences as appropriate.
Provide pre-referral consultation.
Use various software packages for communication and documentation purposes.
Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
Maintain a professional personal appearance.
Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
Other duties may be assigned.
Adhere to Board policies.
Maintain confidentiality.
Education and/or Experience:
Must meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for full/temporary approval as a Teacher Consultant.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in VI.
Master Degree in education or field of study related to Special Education.
Full approval as a Teacher Consultant.
Working Conditions:
Starting Date: 2023-2024 school year
