Job Description Job Title Position Title: Academic Interventionist Location: Various Locations Salary Range: $40,456 Reports to: Principal Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) Benefits Eligible: Yes Telecommuting Eligibility: Not eligible for telecommuting.
In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position Summary: The Academic Interventionist’s primary purpose is to assist in improving academic achievement of all students in grades 1-12.
Academic Interventionist work directly with teacher(s) to assist students in reinforcing Reading and Mathematics skills.
Academic Interventionist will also plan, implement, and assess intervention services to ensure fidelity; enable teachers’ capacity to effectively implement identified core or universal instructional practices for individual students or small groups of students.
Academic Interventionists will work alongside classroom teachers in planning and implementing English/ELA and math intervention initiatives through the iReady program.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution Applicant must show evidence of coursework in Mathematics, English/ELA, Reading, Science or Bilingual.
Minimum three (3) year of actual work experience working directly with students.
Understanding of and commitment to implementing academic intervention activities for students in grades 1-12.
Essential Functions: Communicate effectively and collaborate successfully with other staff members, families and caregivers, and community members Develop and contribute to an environment and climate that is safe, welcoming, and supportive for all members of the campus community Counsel and support students who need additional academic services to advance their progress Be attuned to students’ socioemotional needs in addition to their academic needs and be skilled at building trusting and caring relationships with young people.
Work with families, students, and staff to build and implement individualized academic intervention plans.
Partner with the P-20 Child and Family Support Services Coordinator when applicable; Assist the teacher with planning and facilitating instructional tasks assigned to individual or small groups of students.
Assist with the differentiation of instruction and academic support based on individual students’ strengths and needs.
Work directly with the teacher to assist students in reinforcing Mathematics, English/ELA or Reading, Computer and/or Bilingual skills, and to develop and implement interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Use computer applications/information technology to assist students in improving their Mathematics, and/or English/ELA skills.
Assist teacher to monitor the successful implementation of the school’s curriculum.
Plan and implement differential reading lessons using the iReady intervention program in collaboration with the classroom teacher.
Collaborate with the teacher to provide consistent, intensive, and targeted instruction to students.
Participate in required professional development.
Demonstrate efficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Security Clearance: Internal Applicants If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
