In accordance with the agreement between the Detroit Federation of Para-Professionals and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article XVI, Vacant Positions, the following vacancy is announced:
Position Summary:
The Montessori Para-Educator assist both Pre-Kindergarten-8th grade students and teachers with classroom preparation and task to support the learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Application Requirements: Must be willing to attend and complete 45 hours of Montessori Assistant Training.
Must possess and provide evidence of High School Diploma or GED certification.
Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited institution; or passing scores on the Work keys basic skills assessment test.
A Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or at least a class in Child Development with a written plan to complete the CDA or Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Childhood/Child Development for Early Childhood Montessori classrooms.
Passing Scores of ETS para pro test or passing WorkKeys score prior to June 2017
Working with school age youth helpful.
Essential Functions
Assist the teacher with instructional tasks assigned to individual students or small groups of students.
Assist the teacher with related tasks such as recordkeeping, checking students’ work, preparing and distributing instructional materials, etc.
Serve as a liaison between the school and the family.
Attend Parent-Staff Meetings, during regular working hours.
Participate in in-service workshops.
Observe student performance and assisting in the planning and implementation of appropriate instructional activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Security Clearance:
Internal Applicants
If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
External Applicants
In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check.
