Job Title: Nutrition Education Coordinator

Reporting to: Food Program Manager
Scope: The Nutrition Education Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Michigan Fitness Foundation’s grant endeavor through the SNAP-Ed program, funded by the USDA.
This position will also assist the Food Program Manager in monitoring agency meal programming as well as summer food service programming.
Essential Functions
Coordinate and implement the Nutrition Education program using SNAP-Ed recommended curriculum for students, caregivers, and community groups.
Represent the agency on various physical education/nutrition –based committees within the agency and community.
Perform nutrition related activities as requested, including cooking and food preparation demonstrations.
Design and analyze menus and recipe specifications.
Provide assistance with the promotion and implementation of events.
Attend meetings and work with diverse families, teaching staff, site managers and other stakeholders as needed.
Maintain appropriate records as requested, including teaching logs, surveys and inventory.
Organize, purchase and distribute materials and supplies to students and staff.
Maintain all invoices and receipts of program-related purchases, and complete purchase requisitions.
Monitor food service programs to ensure that it meets and exceeds all USDA guidelines.
Work with food service venders to ensure quality of food items.
Occasionally transport food items to other sites.
Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, partners and staff.
Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Participate in staff development and in-service training activities.
Attend agency departmental meetings and trainings.
Perform related duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, sit, see, talk and hear, and use hands to manipulate.
The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch.
The employee is required to supervise students requiring the employee to match walking speed that matches the student and may at times require the ability to run to safeguard students.
The employee must occasionally lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, and move students.
Employee must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies.
The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions.
The noise level is that of a typical school setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in nutrition, food service, public health, nutrition education or related field.
One-year experience in physical education, nutrition or other related field.
Knowledge and experience with child physical education/nutrition requirements.
Ability to cooperate successfully as a member of a team.
Minimum Competencies:
Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Child Care Licensing background check will be conducted.
Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel to various sites.
Work Hours: Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
