PRIMARY ROLE:
The primary role of the Consultant for English Language Arts is to work with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer and staff to promote effective curriculum instruction activities in Macomb County schools.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree or higher.
A valid Michigan teaching certificate.
At least five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience in K-12 schools.
Expertise in Language Arts with emphasis on the elementary and middle school levels.
Experience in planning, facilitating and presenting in the areas of curriculum; instructional methods, and staff development programs.
Ability to effectively communicate through the spoken and written word.
Knowledge of Michigan Public Acts related to K-12 school standards.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously as a member of a team.
Experience with Michigan state testing programs and assessment; with the understanding of test methodologies and content areas.
Knowledge and experience in the use of instructional technologies and willingness to use them.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate instructional change at local, state and/or national level(s).
Ability to use data for instructional decision-making.
Knowledge of K-12 curriculum and instruction principles and practices.
Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Expertise in the areas of Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP), Michigan Merit Curriculum (MME), and an understanding of performance standards and assessment approaches.
Knowledge and experience in the use of instructional technologies including, but not limited to, stand alone and online computer systems, video, optical media, multimedia devices and traditional audiovisual tools.
Ability to demonstrate the use of the personal computer as a productivity tool including use of software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, and online communication package.
Knowledge of K-12 common core standards.
Willingness to experiment and promote change even when it may appear to involve some professional risk taking.
Self-directed, motivated and organized.
Ability to use electronic technologies to deliver professional information and training.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule involving early morning, evening, and/or weekend assignments as needs dictate.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Working with local building and district teams as they work to integrate curriculum and improve student performance.
Training local school district staff in consultant’s area of expertise.
Conduct research, as appropriate, to meet MISD and local school district needs.
Work with Consultant Services Department staff to provide the many department services to local district educators.
Keep records as directed by Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.
Serve on and participate with internal and external committees as determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.
Experiment and promote change when it is in the best interests of the MISD and/or local school districts.
Use multimedia technologies to deliver professional information and training.
Remain current and conversant with the latest thinking in all areas related to the specific staff assignment.
Perform other related tasks as directed by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.
WORK YEAR: 186 days (with an opportunity to work additional days based upon availability of funds).
UNION: This position would be within the Macomb Intermediate Federation of Teachers.
SALARY: To be determined by qualifications and experience per the Consultant Salary Schedule of the MIFT Master Agreement.
STARTING DATE: As soon as possible
