0000705 Job Description Summary Oakland University’s School of Health Sciences is seeking applications for a Special Instructor in interdisciplinary health sciences.
This is a full-time faculty position on a nine-month contract.
This position will involve teaching undergraduate students within the Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences.
The ideal candidate will possess an academic or experiential background that provides them with interdisciplinary perspectives on the application of health sciences, within health care systems.
Expertise may include healthcare delivery, disease prevention, physiological health, organization, administration and leadership in health and care, and/or healthcare systems.
The position involves teaching foundational health science courses in two key majors: B.
S.
in Interdisciplinary Healthcare Studies, and B.
S.
in Health Sciences, and providing support within the MS in Interdisciplinary Health Care Systems degree program.
Course specific topics may include health and health behaviors, human disease and management, interdisciplinary health leadership, and organization of related internships.
Candidates should demonstrate ability to approach course material through a career-shaping service learning focus.
In this role, candidates will play an active (innovator) role in course development, improvement, assessment, and in collaborations with faculty (department, school and university) and community health partners.
In addition to teaching, the candidate will participate in activities that support the mission of the School and University, including service on committees, student recruitment and professional networking.
Candidates must demonstrate a passion for student success, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have an educational background in a health sciences field (e.
g.
, public health, health sciences, health promotion, biology, lifestyle medicine, physiology, health psychology, healthcare administration, or related) and have completed a Masters degree from an accredited university.
The ideal applicant will have several years’ experience practicing in their relevant field.
Candidates must demonstrate exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Preference for candidates with teaching experience in a university setting.
Preference for candidates that show leadership within the health sciences field through career experience, professional memberships, and/or community organizations.
