Lighthouse Connections Academy (LCA) is a tuition-free virtual public charter school serving students in grades K-12 throughout Michigan.
LCA is authorized by Oxford Community Schools and governed by an independent Board of Directors.
The school contracts with Connections Education LLC to provide its educational program and other services.
Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED.
Lighthouse Connections Academy is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, the Northwest Accreditation Commission, and the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), which are accrediting divisions of Cognia.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
Working from your home office, the Student Advisor will provide school-wide support of the school's STEM program through the coordination, development and delivery of STEM initiatives.
Designing, planning and implementation of STEM units and activities
Teach STEM lessons
Plan and facilitate professional development around best practices in STEM education for both large and small groups
Serve as the STEM facilitator
Work to promote and encourage students historically underrepresented in STEM areas to pursue STEM activities and leadership opportunities
Support the work of the district math instructional coaches while leveraging STEM activities to connect math conceptual understanding to real-world applications
Work collaboratively with teachers in determining learning targets, aligning assessments, and leveraging data to inform instruction and support student learning
Establish a relationship of trust and confidentiality with teachers
Collaborate with school and district administration, teacher leaders, and teachers to support high quality math and science instruction with a focus on culturally responsive teaching practices
Partner with building administrator in leading STEM Community Advisory Panel
Plan and coordinate STEM related family involvement events spread out over the course of school year
Develop after school STEM programming opportunities for students
Requirements:
Michigan teacher certification preferred, but not required by MDE
Michigan Residency preferred
Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
Strong math skills
Strong STEM knowledge
Experience in supporting students in STEM
Experience in group projects for K-12 students
Experience using data in diagnostic programming and instructional planning
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Highly organized and punctual
Student and family focused approach
High degree of flexibility
Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
Team player track record
Strong interpersonal skills which include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
Travel to and attendance at in-person events, including State Testing is required throughout the school year, as determined by the school.
This may require overnight travel.
Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families
Ability to work remotely, if necessary
