Required Education: 4 Year Degree Position Purpose: The Marketing Communications Specialist is responsible for executing marketing strategies, enhancing brand presence, and communicating effectively with media members and target audience.
The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years’ experience working in a marketing communications role in a college athletic department, sports team, governing body, or related organization.

Major Job Dimensions: Work closely with DSC public relations agency to ensure brand is promoted and protected in a proper, coordinated, and consistent manner.
Manage the planning and execution of marketing elements associated with DSC bids and events.
Create a wide range of various marketing materials to help sell the destination.
Administer preparation of all sports-related bid documents to support sales team.
Coordinate with DSC team and design agencies to oversee and approve marketing materials.
Manage the development of the annual marketing and communications plan with DSC agencies.
Update and maintain detroitsports.
org and social media platforms.
Monitor and report on effectiveness of marketing communications.
Compose and edit press releases, company literature, and articles for internal and external use.
Cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships within the media and PR community.
Plan and oversee press events in conjunction with contracted personnel and public relations agency.
Detect public relations issues as they emerge and address them directly.
Research and write briefing materials.
Plan and implement marketing components of sponsorships.
Manage creation and distribution of all e-blasts and volunteer requests using Constant Contact; work cross functionally with each team member to organize assets for ongoing e-blasts.
Maintain effective internal communications to ensure that all departments are kept informed of marketing materials.

Additional Responsibilities Completes required reports, records, and related documents accurately and promptly.
Provide administrative assistance and support as needed.
Special projects as assigned by Deputy Director and Executive Vice President Preferred Qualifications: 1-3 years’ experience working in a marketing or communications role within an organization.
Relationships and/or knowledge of sports events industry.
Advertising/Marketing agency experience preferred.
Familiarity with the hospitality industry, the Detroit metro area and Detroit metro tourism attractions.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or communications field.
One year experience in communications, marketing, media relations or sports information role with college athletic department, sports team, governing body, or similar organization.
Knowledge of sports event operations.
Knowledge of sales promotion, direct marketing, trade show marketing and interactive technology.
Thorough working knowledge of computer systems with familiarity in standard project management, word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite.
Social media experience includes Facebook, X, and Instagram.
Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.

Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver license.

Proficient in using customer relationship management technology with ability to learn new applications and systems.
Available weekends and outside of normal work hours for assignments and travel, as needed.
