DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK

This is skilled work of a journeyman level in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and accessories in accordance with standard trade practices.
The work is performed under the direction of applicable Supervisors or DPW Administration but the employee acts as a lead worker over others assisting in the work and must be able to achieve a high quality of workmanship without close supervision.
This position involves skilled work in surveying and the inspection of plumbing systems in both commercial and residential facilities pertaining to compliance of all related cross connection codes, ordinances, and regulations.
The employee is responsible for taking official action to ensure compliance with all regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspects backflow devices to enforce rules and codes and protect against cross connections.
Installs, tests, prepares, and repairs backflow devices to ensure proper functioning.
Maintains and repairs plumbing systems and fixtures in City facilities.
Reviews project blueprints to determine backflow requirements.
Orders and maintains parts and supplies; responds to and/or resolves inquires and complaints from customers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE:
Plumbing systems and fixtures;
Applicable codes and ordinances;

Plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance.

Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems;
Interpreting blueprints;
Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with the general public and others to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, inadequate lighting, and travel.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience; or, Associate's degree and 3 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Journeyman Plumber License
Backflow Tester Certificate (Must obtain within 6 months of hire)
Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
